O2 Wallet launches

O2 Wallet is the new way to send and receive money, compare prices and shop via your mobile – you can also use it whether you’re with O2 or not, meaning anyone can benefit from its great new features.

 

Here’s a quick rundown of what it can do: 

• Money Message – The simple way to send money to, or receive money from, anyone with a mobile phone in the UK. It’s as easy as sending a text. Perfect for settling those IOUs from the weekend.

• Shopping via your mobile – O2 Wallet makes shopping on your mobile simple.  It lets you scan barcodes, compare prices, get brilliant offers and pay for stuff – all with your mobile. There are millions of branded goods from more than 100 online retailers.

• Your phone as your wallet – You can securely add your debit or credit cards into O2 Wallet, making it easier than ever to pay for things on the go. Money can be loaded directly into the O2 Money Account via registered debit cards, by receiving a Money Message or with cash at more than 30,000 locations including O2 stores, PayPoint and epay retail-outlets.

• O2 Money Account Card – O2 Wallet includes a virtual O2 Money Account Card, perfect for online mobile shopping. It’s also pre-paid which is useful if you want to keep an eye on your finances. It’s virtual (because it lives in the app) but you can also request the physical card to pay for things on the high street or withdraw cash from ATM’s. The physical card is also contactless, so you can make payments up to £15 with a quick tap of your card at more than 100,000 contactless payment points in the UK.

Would you like Wi-fries with that? O2 Wifi on the menu at McDonald’s

If you’ve visited a McDonald’s restaurant in the last five years with your smartphone, laptop or tablet, the chances are that you’ll have updated your Facebook status or tweeted whilst tucking into a Big Mac. We’ve just announced a partnership with McDonald’s to continue this for the next five years, with O2 Wifi.

As with all O2 Wifi hotspots, accessing wifi while you eat will be fast, safe and free for O2 customers and non-O2 customers alike – and getting connected will be as easy as Apple Pie. You’ll only need to register with O2 Wifi once, either at McDonald’s or when visiting one of our other partners. Once that’s done, you’ll automatically connect to O2 Wifi whenever you’re in range of a hotspot.We’ve already started installing O2 Wifi in McDonald’s restaurants up and down the country, and we’ll have all 1,200 sites connected in time for what will undoubtedly be one of the busiest and most exciting summers the UK has ever seen. McDonald’s is the latest in a string of market-leaders to team up with O2 Wifi – we’ve recently announced partnerships with Mitchells & Butlers (who operate a number of favourite pub and restaurant brands like Harvester and O’Neill’s), House of Fraser and Tragus, the company behind the likes of Café Rouge and Bella Italia.

McDonald’s is no stranger to offering free wifi for its customers – they became the UK’s biggest free wifi provider in 2007. Each month, an amazing 750,000 customers are logging on while they enjoy their meals. In January 2012, they became the first company to join Mumsnet’s Family Friendly Wifi programme.  With O2 Wifi, McDonald’s can continue to offer almost 3 million daily customers a safe, free wifi experience. And, because O2 Wifi uses only premium public hotspots, it really will be a case of good food fast, and good fast internet.
