Today on Thursday 29th March, O2 UK will be launching BlackBerry Over The Air Software Loading (OTASL) as an additional way for our customers to control their BlackBerry software.
This service is available on BlackBerry’s purchased from O2 UK with Version 7 software or later only. New BlackBerry software can be downloaded Over-The-Air over a WiFi network at any time.
BlackBerry 7 phones supported at launch include Bold 9900, Bold 9790, Torch 9810, Torch 9860 and Curve 9380. The Over-The-Air software capabilities for the BlackBerry Curve 9360 have been delayed and will be added towards the end of April.
BlackBerry Enterprise Server and BlackBerry Enterprise Server Express customers can use OTASL over the O2 mobile network as well as over WiFi. If OTASL is used over the O2 UK mobile network software downloads are automatically queued until 1am-6am (UK time). BlackBerry software can be downloaded over WiFi at any time.
In addition, the very first time a BlackBerry with version 7 software is turned on the BlackBerry automatically checks for any new software updates. If there is new software available, a “Software Update” icon will appear on the home screen offering the user the option to download over WiFi.
